1st April

Today we have our weekly Zoom catchup with the VSO Country Director and as usual it cuts out during parts of the conversation. There is a VSO medical advisor that joins the chat and she is advising us to go home. They say they can’t guarantee our safety if things get worse. They think they can arrange a flight for us but this is not 100% certain. They scare us with their concerns. I hate it when they do this, because my mind has become settled on staying, I’ve processed all the pros and cons and feel secure in my decision, and then they give us options again. Katie is going to leave. She feels they are telling us to leave and want us to go. I feel they’re painting the worse case scenario to cover themselves. Hannah thinks all sorts of things and is undecided. Then my mind changes, and then changes again.

I talk to my family and it seems they think that it’s safer to stay. I have a bad feeling about getting on a flight and the fact it totally contradicts the point of self isolating. I go for a walk to clear my head, this time people are smiling, and the staff in the local shop wave to me. The view over the city looks so peaceful and the sun looks a beautiful pink. I see it as a sign to stay.

In several countries, inmates have been released from prison to help stop the spread of the virus. The Rwanda prisons service assures that the safety of prison inmates is under full control and that regular supervision is being observed to prevent the spread of C-19 and have restricted families and friends from visiting inmates.

On Twitter, the Rwanda police are warning people who are still violating C-19 regulations. It is written in Kinyarawandan so I use Google translate to find out what it is they have numbered:
1. Those who stand in the road doing nothing
2. Sportsmen on the road
3. Those who form gangs and are going for nothing
4. Those who go to the shops but are buying nothing
5. Individuals or groups who do not respect the distance between them
6. Providers of essential services who do not meet the requirements for their customers to meet each other
Doing the above is a violation of state regulations. It puts your life and the lives of others at risk
The person who is caught will be treated as a person who wants to infect the plague and infect others. He will be punished exemplary.
I wonder how accurate Google translate is.
